Early Spring is an important time to help your lawn recover from winter and prepare for a healthy lawn this summer.

The first thing I recommend doing is clean up a bit. You cant to clear away any leaves and sticks from last fall, and any junk left behind from the snow piles. It’s also a good idea to take a rake to the lawn and remove any dead grass. Keep your eyes peeled for snow mold.

Next up, look around for bare patches or spots, now is the time you want to re-seed or re-sod. Wait to fertilize, most of you had fertilized in the fall, now is not the time to fertilize.

Now wait until the grass is around 3in high, then you should begin mowing. Make it a common practice to not cut your lawn much shorter than that, 2 1/2 inches is about as short as you want to go. Also, leave the clippings on the lawn, it’s free fertilizer!

There you have it, now we just need spring to hurry up and get here!
